What's the worst MCU movie?
Re-watching Ant-Man didn't stir up many thoughts, although I liked it still on the second viewing. I think knowing what to expect made that movie better.
Thor Dark World on the other hand... I feel like this is clearly the worst movie in the whole MCU. It doesn't know what kind of movie it wants to be. Sometimes it tries for humor, other times it's super dark, sometimes it's cosmic. The tone of the movie is really hard to pin down and the pacing swings wildly.
This is one of those movies where I'm glad I watched it again because I wanted to remember what happened but I didn't actually enjoy my time watching it. There are a handful of MCU movies that don't live up to the others but this one is so far below them for me personally.
I'm actually really curious about this so I started asking friends online about which MCU movie is the worst. Consistently the three movies I heard from people were Thor Dark World, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man 3. I also heard Incredible Hulk from some people but I honestly think most people forget that one is technically part of the MCU.
How about you dear reader? Which do you think is the worst MCU movie out there?
Worst? Iron Man 2, 3, and Captain America 1. I was bored by all three of them. Captain America movies turned it around with 2 and 3, but the thought of a potential Iron Man 4 has me readying a pillow and blanket.
ReplyDeleteI actually like Thor: Dark World, if only because Thor's setting is so out there that it never fails to be fun for me. Plus, it had excellent Loki action.
I don't watch Hulk movies.
You've name a bunch that are on the lower end of my overall MCU ratings. I think we're on the same track except for Thor Dark World. I think it's just so horrible :)
DeleteFor me Ant Man was the worst of the MCU. I expected to like it, because I like Paul Rudd, but I didn't find anything in it particularly funny, believable or exciting. I also wasn't a huge fan of the first Thor (haven't seen the 2nd one). That movie was overall not memorable for me and, maybe this was a problem with the version I was watching, I found most of the stuff in Asgard so visually dark that I couldn't tell what was going on.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Iron Man 3. The movie does have a fair bit of downtime in the middle, but I could watch RDJ be mean to children all day.
If you didn't like the first Thor... definitely avoid the second one. I'm surprised about Ant-Man though. I actually found myself liking it more on the second viewing once I knew what type of movie it was and what to expect from it.
DeleteI think you're dead on with the issues in Thow:TDW. Light on substance and hedged its bets too much to focus on doing any one thing very well.
ReplyDeleteAs to the other weak links... the Iron Man sequels are fine for what they are, but kind of have to live in the shadow of the first one. Not bad, but still disappointing despite being above-average movies.
Ant-man's reliance on jokiness sems like it could pull down its rewatch value, but that's secondary - it still holds its ground as a smaller Marvel movie.
I totally agree with you about the Iron Man series.
DeleteI liked the second viewing of Ant-Man more than the first because I went in knowing what type of movie it was trying to be the second time. But, I don't think it's a movie I could rewatch over and over.
They're all good!
ReplyDeleteOk, I've already answered via Twitter but I'll record here for posterity. Incredible Hulk is the worst. It's the only one I don't own. Next is Iron Man 3 and his aluminum/chewing gum constructed suits. Seriously, why do they fall apart every time somebody touches them?
Lol, it's so funny how much those suits fall apart in Iron Man 3. He goes from like 40 suits to 0 suits in the space of what... 10 minutes?
